Terms of Service

Last updated: July 2026

These Terms of Service (“Terms”) form an agreement between Petty Court (“Petty Court”, “we”, “us”) and you (“you”, the “user”). By accessing or using Petty Court, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.

1. What Petty Court is (and isn’t)

Petty Court is a satirical entertainment site where people share small disputes or “Am I the Asshole?”-style confessions and the internet votes. The words “court”, “jury”, “verdict”, “sentence”, and “guilty” are used entirely figuratively.

  • Petty Court is not a real court of law.
  • Verdicts, sentences, and vote outcomes carry no legal weight whatsoever.
  • Nothing here is legal, financial, medical, or professional advice.
  • Outcomes do not, and cannot, oblige anyone in the real world to do anything.

2. Eligibility & your account

  • You must be at least 13 (or older, if your country sets a higher minimum).
  • Provide accurate information at sign-up and keep your account current.
  • You’re responsible for your account and all activity under it.
  • Keep your login secure and tell us if you notice unauthorized use.
  • Sign-in is handled by Google’s Firebase Authentication. We never see or store your password (see the Privacy Policy).

3. How cases work

You can file a “case” (a two-sided dispute) or a “story” (a one-sided confession). If you sue someone in a dispute, they are notified and get to defend themselves. Other accounts vote, propose sentences, and a verdict emerges. All of this is for entertainment; outcomes are non-binding and may change, be corrected, or be removed over time.

4. Community rules / Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Harass, bully, threaten, or post hate speech or attacks on protected groups.
  • Expose real private information (addresses, phone numbers, national IDs/passports, emails, workplaces, location, etc.). Blur such details in screenshots.
  • Impersonate any person, brand, or organization.
  • Post illegal content, sexual content involving minors, or incitement to violence.
  • Spam, scam, distribute malware, or push unwanted promotions.
  • Manipulate voting: fake accounts, vote bots, voting from multiple accounts, or attempting to bypass anti-abuse protections.
  • Scrape, automate against, or overload the site without permission.
  • Upload content you don’t have the right to share (someone’s photo, copyrighted work, etc.).

5. Naming real people — your responsibility

Petty Court lets you post about real people. That’s powerful, and the responsibility is entirely yours.

  • You — not us — are responsible for the truth and legality of everything you post.
  • Don’t post content that is defamatory, harassing, or that invades someone’s privacy. Such content is your liability.
  • Don’t publish someone’s private information without their consent.
  • Humor and exaggeration are part of the site, but they don’t make a harmful lie or a real person’s private details acceptable to post.

6. Your content & the license you grant us

You own the content you submit. So that we can run the site, you grant us a worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, display, reproduce, format, and use your content for operating and promoting the service (for example, generating shareable “verdict cards”). This license lasts while your content is on the site and ends within a reasonable time after you delete the content or your account (except for backups and copies already shared by others).

7. Reporting & moderation

You can report content that breaks the rules. We may remove, hide, restrict, or suspend content or accounts at our discretion and without prior notice. We are not obligated to review every report or remove every piece of content, but we reserve the right to remove illegal or harmful material. To request removal of a case about you, email us.

8. Premium (Plus / Pro)

Premium buys visibility and tools only — never votes, verdicts, or unfair advantage. Paid plans are not currently on sale, and tiers are assigned manually by an administrator until purchasing is enabled. When payments are added, pricing, billing, and refund terms will be incorporated into these Terms.

9. Intellectual property

The Petty Court name, logo, interface, icon set, and software belong to us (or our licensors) and are protected by intellectual-property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, or create derivative works from them without our permission.

10. Prohibited technical conduct

You may not attempt to hack, bypass security measures, exploit vulnerabilities, access other users’ accounts, or disrupt the service. If you find a security vulnerability, please report it to us rather than exploiting it.

11. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate your account without notice if you breach these Terms. You may delete your account at any time from Settings. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination (liability, indemnity, intellectual property, etc.) continue to apply.

12. Disclaimer of warranties

The site is provided “as is” and “as available.” We make no express or implied warranties that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or fit for a particular purpose. We are not responsible for the accuracy of user content.

13. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Petty Court is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the site. Our total liability is in any case limited to the minimum amount permitted by law.

14. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from third-party claims arising out of your content or your breach of these Terms.

15. Third-party services

We use Firebase Authentication (Google) for sign-in and Cloudflare for hosting and our database. Those services have their own terms and privacy policies, which also apply.

16. Governing law & disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the country where the operator is established. If you are a consumer, you may also benefit from the mandatory consumer protections of the country where you live. We’ll try to resolve disputes in good faith first.

17. Changes

We may update these Terms from time to time and will try to give reasonable notice of material changes. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the current Terms.

Petty Court is satire. Verdicts are legally worthless and morally binding.
